I. Moment of Silence.

II.  Committees -

Council Breaking the Code Committee - Ari reported that the committee had continued their discussions about what to do if a member of Council breaks the Code.  The committee decided that the best way to rectify the possible conflict-of-interest of a Council member being put on trial by his/her fellow Council members was to reduce the number of Council members on the jury.  The committee is considering reducing the number of Council members to 3 (from 6) on an academic trial and 2 (from 3) on the SFP.  The committee also thought that they wouldn’t fool with the make-up of the Joint Panel because their are only 4 members of Council on them anyway and the 2 deans can definitely insure that all the bases are being covered.  Caitlin brought up a good point that if we change the jury composition, everyone on Council will know that a fellow member of Council has allegedly broken the Code, which could be a breach of their confidentiality.  Ari responded that the committee hadn’t thought about this, but would discuss it at their next meeting.  Expect some exciting resolutions coming to a Plenary near you next semester . . . . . .

Mock Trial Committee - Ben noted that the mock trial last week was canceled due to lack of community interest, but that their would be a full one on Monday.

SFP Committee - Lucy then talked about the SFP Committee’s discussions about changing what many see to be a flawed procedure.  The committee is going to consult with Marilou Allen, our resident walking encyclopedia about all things Haverfordian, about ways to change the SFP, but in a way that avoids the old mistakes of the past social trial procedure.  A key step will be reinvigorating Communications Outreach, Haverford’s essentially defunct peer mediation group.  This might be accomplished by having Communication Outreach heads appointed by Appointments Committee.  The SFP Committee also hopes to hold community forums on ways to change the Code to better address social concerns.

III.  It’s All About You - Jenn told Council that a community member approached her wanting to know when Honor Council was going to get around to actually having the Multicultural Juror List forum we talked about having.  Suddenly mobilized into action (kindof like when the Batman symbol goes up over Gotham . . . .oh, nevermind), Council quickly decided to actually schedule the forum, so . . . . .

A Discussion about the Necessity (or Lack Thereof) of the Multicultural Juror List

And you thought we never listened to you . . .

IV.  Confidential Portion, Moment of Silence

Hmmmm . . . .if I wanted to, I could write forever today, look at all this room down here.  Y’all enjoy all of the quotes of the meeting up top?  It was going pretty slowly actually, but then their was a rash of dirty thinking right there at the end.  Even I made it up there, and one of the great things about being Secretary is you can usually censor yourself so that the whole campus doesn’t read about the dirty things you say while they sit on the can.  In fact, I think that is the sole reason Scott Burau became Secretary last year.  Hell, Lucy said something so bad I couldn’t even write it up on top of the sheet.  Yeah, it was really disgusting, you know how she is.  What’s that Lucy,  oh, I’m fired, yeah ok, whatever :)  Before I clear out my desk, can I just note that these minutes do not necessarily reflect the opinions, views, and/or diatribes of Haverford College or its Administration.  Thanks, I guess I’ll go now.  The kids are going to be really upset when they find out Daddy lost his job.
