I teach a wide range of courses in Modern Jewish thought and culture, together with material studies in religion. My research focuses on modern Jewish conceptions of identity and authority, and material conceptions of self. I have published two books, Moses Hess and Modern Jewish Identity (2001), and Abraham Geiger’s Liberal Judaism: Personal Meaning and Religious Authority (2006), both with Indiana University Press. My most recent work, Material Culture and Jewish Thought in America, will be available in the Spring of 2010, again from Indiana University Press.
