Moment of Silence
Plenary: Beth explained what plenary is and how it
will be organized this year. Meeting will be Sunday, 9/29/02, at
5:30 in the fieldhouse.
Appointments: Lauren discussed appoints for the previous
week. Elizabeth Young and Sarah Grebow were appointed to EPC. Ben
Koski was appointed to CCIT. Sarah Grebow was also appointed to
Committee on Teacher Education in the Bi-Co Community.
Activities: Jon announced that there will be an activities
committee meeting tonight after SC meeting to make posters to advertise
the Toga Dance in Founders this Saturday 9/28/02 and Plenary on
Sunday 9/29/02.
Budget: Andrew discussed budgeting which will be completed
following grievances Tuesday night. Random auditing will take place
this year, all clubs should hold on to their receipts.
Appointed Greg Reed to maintain Comment Board.
Student Space - Scott discussed the furniture in Lunt
Basement. Does SC still want to financially support the project.
James added that Comfort doesn’t really have a basement and
would like to rearrange the storage space to create a Student Space.
Heather remarked that she does not think nice furniture should be
placed in an area where alcohol will be consumed. Scott announced
that Gummere basement will still be refurnished. Elizabeth added
that Lunt Café is sufficient and that many people may not
use new furniture. Chris (reporting for the Bi-Co) chimed in that
new lighting is necessary. Heidi and Claire would like a study area
in the basement of 30 where the Computer Lab is located. The Computer
lab should also be advertised. It would be nice to add a student
lounge in Apartment 30. Scott concluded that HCA and Comfort may
be better initiatives then Lunt basement. Scott said that it will
be discussed when the BOM comes and would like to take them on a
tour to show them some of the spaces that need to be re-done. A
bathroom will be added in Lunt Basement.
Turn Page Over
Budgeting for “Athletic Clubs” - Hockey team received
money from the athletic department, Crew did not. The treasurers
believe that they need financial support from the Athletic department.
Elizabeth wanted to know if a Plenary resolution can be added to
get more varsity athletic teams.
Washer and dryer reports for each building are being
given to Scott and be given to Robin Doan..
Jon met with Coke contractor and we will be working
out a new Coke contract for the next five years. We want to work
out problems so that machines are always filled and plugged in and
keep inventory. Will and Jon were talking about making the Coke
representative an appointed three year position instead of a yearly
Dorm Rep position.
Second Semester Concert Ideas- Want to get a donor
to pay for concert. Lauren read off a list of bands people requested
that we bring in. Will and Scott would like to provide a wish-list
for the BOM in order to possibly get donations for the concerts.
Scott said that tickets would probably be sold to the community,
with first priority given to Haverford Students, estimated price
is $10.
Tom King spoke about Safety and Security. New security
website has been set up. Card access implementation before Alumni
Weekend this summer. All students will obtained a card next year
for access to dorms, labs, dining, library, bookstore, vending machines,
etc. Card access needed for increased student convenience and security.
Tom wants to create a Safety and Security committee composed of
students and try to organize campus wide meetings in Marhsall. Replacement
Cards will cost less then replacing keys. There is a possibility
that each individual dorm room will have an individual swipe card,
definitely in the future Comcast has contacted Tom because students
have been tapping into cable boxes and stealing cable. Cable theft
is a felony! Considering types of audible alarms to use with propped
doors.
Dorm Rep Thoughts - Elizabeth said that the VCR doesn’t
work in Barclay, it should be sent to AV. Dorm Reps will continue
to post minutes. Joe asked about the plumbing situation in the North
Dorms including Jones, and brought up the point that only 25% of
the microwaves work. Elizabeth asked about Coop Points, Scott added
that it will be brought up with the BOM and explained the way it
may possibly work. Elizabeth added that students up campus should
be allowed to be on a partial meal plan, the Coop Points would allow
for this. Claire asked about getting a bookstore accound in Lunt
Basement, Andrew added that students running the café are
looking into the situation. Heather wanted to know if book store
account could be used in the Coop and combine the two. Claire spoke
about trying to get 20 meals a week to be used at any time, instead
of one at each sitting. Josh asked about the quality of the toilet
paper. James asked about the reason Comfort has no laundry.
