To keep students’ email inboxes from flooding but
to simultaneously ensure that all students receive crucial announcements
and updates about campus life and events, Students’ Council has adopted
the following policy for electronic advertising and announcements.
Students’ Council oversees four venues
for electronic advertising and announcements: mass emails, the Weekly
Wednesday Newsletter, the Weekend Events Email, and an announcements section
on GO (shared with FIG).
Mass Emails
A mass email filterer, appointed from within Executive Council of SC,
will oversee the mass email system. This individual will have discretion
over which emails go directly to the student body and which are declined,
using the following guidelines:
- All official business of
Students’ Council, Honor Council, JSAAPP, and the administration
and faculty shall be approved.
- Large campus-wide events
and announcements shall be approved to the student body. The filterer
will consider size, venue and expected demand for an event when approving
a potential email. The filterer may also consider whether the event
or announcement fills an underrepresented niche on campus.
Weekly Emails
A Weekly Wednesday Newsletter and Weekend Events Email administrator,
appointed from within SC at large, will oversee these two weekly emails.
This person will consider the following purposes of these emails:
- The Weekly Wednesday Newsletter
(WWN) is reserved for nearly any announcement, either by a student group,
faculty member, administrator, or individual student. These may include
announcements of open meetings or events. The WWN will be sent Tuesday
night at midnight, and online requests shall therefore be submitted
by Tuesday evening.
- The Weekend Events Email
(WEE) will be a briefer email of the upcoming weekend events. This has
been created because many large events in the WWN have been lost among
the dozens of announcements. The WEE will ideally have no more than
five or six short listings of events, primarily on-campus. The WEE will
be sent Thursday, and online requests shall therefore be submitted by
Wednesday evening. The WEE will also be sent to Swarthmore and Bryn
Mawr contacts for proper distribution to those communities.

Announcements
SC will post only official SC business, including meeting minutes, on
the announcements section of GO. Honor Council and FIG also have the ability
to post in this section.
